Hello everyone. Welcome back to the corporate to coach podcast. And today is a very special episode because we are doing a client feature with one of my current one-to-one clients.
I am so pleased to introduce my client, Angeline Gavino. She is a corporate powerhouse who is also building her coaching business.
And she has been working with me. We just figured out it was seven months already and we came together in March 25 at the time of this recording so we're currently in October 2025 and it's been a busy year it's been an incredible year lots has been achieved and I'm so excited to bring Angeline to the table to be able to share some of her stories and her experiences with her business and what has shifted for her over the course of this year.
So Angeline, would you like to start with introducing, if you're happy to, a little bit more about your background and the kind of coaching business that you have?
All right. Well, hi. Thank you so much for having me here. So, yes, I've been in the corporate space. My role is a vice president of customer success at a scale up.
And I've been doing my role. I've been in this role for about four years now. my totality, I've been in this business for like more than 17 years.
And I started to think about building my own, my own thing sometime last year, early last year. And I've, I've always had it at the back of my head, but I didn't know where to start.
I did officially built my coaching company, I would say it's a boutique coaching and consulting firm, sometime in June, July last year.
And when I say officially, it's because I, I registered my, my, my business and I created, I bought a domain and created my website, but that's, that was pretty, pretty much me saying, okay, let's get this going.
Otherwise I would just like continue to think about it and not really take action. And, and so like you rightly said, we started to have this one-on-one coaching, um, in March.
It was at that time where my business is at, you know, I've been doing it for six, seven months, but I felt like I wasn't moving anywhere.
I felt like I need a little bit more hands-on support on the business side of things because, um, what I do is I coach, um, customer success leaders, which is, you know, my, my industry.
And I'm, I'm very confident with the execution part, like coaching and working with customer success leaders in this space, because I've been doing it for free prior to actually creating my business.
It's really, in fact, one of the reasons why I felt like, okay, I can really do this thing. But then I don't know the business side of it. And that's why I wanted to get somebody who's going to be very hands-on and really provide that guidance that I need as I really build.
Thank you so much for sharing. And one of the things that I really loved and I was so excited about when it came to starting to work with you is that whilst you've shared with everyone that the business was only six, six months, actually, no, let me do the math, July to March, about nine months in at the time of us starting to work together.
You actually had so much in place from a marketing perspective. There was a lot that was established. You had, and I really, value sharing the context with, with our audience, because it really does help to know like where really, where you were starting.
So while the business was relatively new, when you came to me, you have an established podcast, a decent, very decent size email list, a website, a fully fledged website that is up and running, uh, you're sending mailers weekly from a marketing perspective and an output perspective, you.
doing and continue to do a lot which is incredible for especially at your at especially considering how long you've been in business it was in my opinion a very established marketing system that was bringing in subscribers and audience members but it was translating that into paid clients and Right, exactly.
No, I love that you said that because now I, in hindsight, I can say that wasn't like, I felt I was saying earlier, I felt like there's nothing going on in my business.
But oftentimes, in that building phase, it's, it's normal that it's, I realized now in hindsight, a lot of the things I've built at the beginning of my business gave me the momentum that I have now to really cultivate that and turn that into actual revenue.
And maybe it's also coming from my corporate background. I understood marketing from the start. I understood audience building from the start. And I was also doing some other programs out there.
There was a few coaching programs that I also invested in, but it was more like a do-it-yourself kind of program.
And it helped me get the business going. I, like you rightly said, I started my newsletter because I knew that I cannot just like launch a business.
Like an online business is not like, Oh, I have a website. And then people's going to start coming into the website. Like I need to make sure I'm making it visible.
And, um, I am already very visible in LinkedIn because that's where my audience are. So I really, um, worked more on that, and then cultivated that and brought people to my newsletter, because I knew that LinkedIn algorithm is really hard to decipher.
And so I want to be able to have access and control of my audience. So I started the newsletter. And then I started podcast because it's a medium that is very much how to call this people in my industry like to consume.
And so I knew that I, I need to put it out there to get more visibility. And the thing is I have a core, I have a nine to five job. I have like a full-time job and I'm doing this on the side.
And so I had to be very realistic with what I could, um, I could achieve. And so I made a promise to myself at the very least do, um, release a podcast episode every other two weeks.
And I've been able to consistently do that. So really a lot of this, how should I say, um, promise, um, uh, I need to understand what I can realistically do.
and then commit to that. And I think that was like one of the early things that I needed to learn very, very fast so that I can, like I said, build that momentum.
Yes. And I love that you came to the coaching with all of that established. So, and not that we're here to coach, but I just love that contrast of saying how your business wasn't doing much and yet you were doing so much in your business.
And I think that's something that a lot of my audience and, and clients come to me saying they are doing a lot in their business, but their business isn't doing much to show them the results and the returns.
And it isn't that things aren't in place. It isn't that you haven't done the courses or that you haven't had the coaching, but it's making all of it work for you with the time restraints that you have.
Because I know in the to you're currently based in Asia, you were traveling to New York, you had speaking gigs, you had keynotes, there was so much going on in your corporate career, navigating your launch and doing all of that around it and making it work for you and not making it a problem with your corporate career and still committing to the things you said you would.
there is so much that you brought to the table that you are already really, really strong at. I mean, it was a joy. It's been a joy to coach you and support you and continues to be, to be honest with you.
So I want to celebrate that first of all. I appreciate that. No, it helps to know that. I mean, like you said, like we were talking about it, right?
When you're just in the beginning phase and there's no dollars coming in, you feel like, oh my gosh, what am I doing?
Like nothing's turning into dollars. But I realized, the thing is, this is my first time business that i'm really doing on my own.
So, so maybe the journey would be different for everybody else. It could be like the velocities for some people, it could be faster, but the fact that i had a 905 i knew that it will be slower.
So I also, um, made sure that i'm setting the right expectation because otherwise I, I was afraid to burn out too.
Like I have to do a lot of the things that i do on the side after my job. And I work with a very global team, a global customer. So I have evening calls sometimes for customers in my nine to five customers in the US.
And so I need to be very, very conscious about how much time do I put on the business without sacrificing the quality of the work that I put out for my nine to five.
But But yes, I think it's been A lot of the work that we've done as well has really helped me understand, right?
How do I focus my energy? How do I become a bit more organized so that I'm always making sure that things are moving forward?
Even though it's slow, it's now one year, more than one year later since I started, I can say that, oh, that one year was not a waste of time.
Like that was so essential for me to get to where I am today. Yes. So good. And that is one of the things that we worked on that a lot of clients come to me with is balancing the energy of the nine to five and the job.
And sorry, the nine to five is the job, the nine to five and the business. And in the business, what I found really interesting with you was that we definitely looked at the structure of your client journey, how we were bringing clients into your business, how they were finding you, how you're nurturing them and converting them.
And what was interesting is that in the grand scheme of things, we didn't actually end up taking too much away.
The structure itself didn't change significantly. What, what I observed from the outside in it was your confidence in the client journey, your understanding of what the client journey was and the role that each of those functions played, and then knowing where to prioritize your effort with those same actions and one of the things that you ended up doing was doing a group launch, which you hadn't done before, if I'm correct in thinking.
It was definitely your first group launch, but not your first webinar, right? Correct, correct. So yeah, as you rightly put, the Convert, Nurture, Discover, I'm flashing it on my screen because I always have it, has been really a very good structure for me to understand how do I manage the customer journey And you're right.
It hasn't really changed much, right? A lot of my nurture is still my LinkedIn. I'm like my marketing aspect is LinkedIn, newsletters, podcasts, my website.
It hasn't changed. I also did start, I did webinars, webinar to launch my one-on-one coaching prior to us working together.
And that has continued to be a vehicle I use when I launched my group one-on-one, sorry, my group program, because I've, I've found confidence in really doing it already and it aligned so much more with the audience that I have.
But yes, to be honest, a lot of the tweaks and optimization that we did in every single part was so helpful.
Just like when we look at my newsletter and how we talked about having very clear call to action, that was super helpful.
For example, my consult calls, we tweaked the consult call form to ensure that people coming are not just looking for free advice.
And there was a lot of things that help in a very, very organized person. There were a lot of things from that aspect, from the execution aspect that we optimize to ensure that we're converting and I'm not wasting my time or it doesn't matter.
So yeah, So, yes, although we didn't change the journey, there was a lot of improvements that has, you know, that has helped me really ensure that I'm putting the right time where it matters.
Thank you for sharing that. And what I loved about some of the improvements that were made is seeing how your relationship with those vehicles changed.
Because I remember at the beginning, one of the things you said to me was that webinars, I tried that once.
It didn't really work. I'm not sure if I want to do it again. And actually there was so much gold to be had from that first webinar.
And also it's understanding where it was a success, things that you were already doing effectively that you could bring in and even making the decision to continue trying with a webinar and bringing that into your launch for group.
And just prior to this, we were coaching and debriefing on the webinar itself, looking at the statistics and looking at the data, but then underneath the data, looking at what the energetics and the beliefs behind that data are indicating and how we can use that information to optimize for next time.
And these are things that I think it's fair to say you weren't necessarily aware to do beforehand. And tell me about the shift in confidence that gives you in terms of how you feel about your business overall, but also how just knowing what to do, the like how to build a business, what to do to sign clients.
What did that shift for you? Yeah. Well, well for sure. I think that, like I said, a lot of my mindset before, because I was just starting was like, nothing is working, nothing is moving the needle.
I don't know what I'm doing. because I did by that time, um, I believe a couple of webinars and it didn't amount to actually like people didn't sign up via that webinar launch.
Uh, and so, over time I thought that, okay, maybe that's not the right vehicle for me. But the thing is, I love webinars. I've been on a lot of like other, I've been guesting a lot on webinars doing this, how should I say, presentations.
And I love to talk and I love to teach and I love to share my knowledge. And so I think understanding what's the right way to do it is important.
is what really helped shift. Like in a lot of things, right? I was doing newsletters, I was doing podcasts, but there was so much more that we could have improved.
So it was working with you helped me understand how can I improve the execution, right? Because just like writing newsletters, everyone can do it.
I mean, there's ChatGPT now, everybody can just like write newsletters, but the way that you do it, that will resonate and will actually get people to be intrigued to get on a consult call with you, or a messaging that resonates with them because that's a challenge that they're trying to solve in their organization and now want to see if there's a possibility of working with you.
A lot of the tweaks that we made help with facilitating that. From that webinar perspective as well, just how do you do it? What is the energy you bring into the webinar?
If you go in a webinar thinking that, oh gosh, it's not going to work, I learned firsthand that, well, obviously it's the...
the results will match the energy that you put in it. And I think that a lot of the mindset work actually that we did around how do I prepare to get on these webinar launches really helped me.
And I think one eye-opening fact is I came to you really looking more for a business coach to help me design the business, like the marketing and the sales engine.
But I can't, I got more out of it because I wasn't really thinking about like the mindset piece. I always thought that I'm very good at like resetting my mindset, but there was a lot of mindset work that we did that I was like, Oh, okay.
They were eyeopening and really helped me with, again, the execution, how, how I show up and how I execute all of these activities that I already do, but take it to a next level where I'm getting real results.
So, so I think that's, that's a bit of both like the journey of, um, knowing how to do it right, having someone like you to bounce ideas of to troubleshoot things.
And then also having the right mindset really was just what helped me get the results that I'm looking for.
Yeah, so good. And thanks for bringing up the mindset piece, because it's something. And by the way, you are really good at mindset. It's not that you're bad at mindset.
I don't think that's unfair on yourself to say that. But the the the mindset things that we were able to pick up on is, is it they're often subtle, when you came to me very rarely, it was only a very occasionally where you were like, Oh, I'm definitely feeling a little bit unconfident in this.
So I have doubts about this. But most of the time, it was just us strategizing, being really clear on the next steps.
And then in that, I'm able to pick up blind spots that you can't see. And I'm able, it's because it's often it's through language that are the indicators.
It's, it's subtle things and being able to pick that up and then unpack that we're diving into the mindset, but through a strategic lens.
So it isn't just mindset for the sake of it, which I know in, I know from my own journey, it can be really easy just to do the like spiritual stuff and the mindset stuff, and it can feel really good and really really expansive, but if it isn't through the lens of the results you want to create, then there isn't always an outcome.
And one thing you've always been is so outcome driven coming to this. You've always been very, very committed to making the business work and signing clients, making revenue, generating revenue, but not just for now, but through the lens of scalability.
And that is your business acumen now. coming through from your corporate background which I've also just as a side note really enjoyed when it comes to working with you because your corporate background and the business acumen you have has really really shown because you really do think from a scaling perspective where most are just thinking from a how do I sign my next client perspective which I really enjoy about our journey together.
I appreciate you saying that. No, I realize there's a lot of transferable skills from my corporate job that I'm bringing to the business and also a lot of the mindset.
And just going back on mindset, I'm really the kind of person who thinks like this mindset thing is a woo-woo thing.
Like I don't believe in it because I felt like I need, I just, it's just me. I just need to internalize it. But this is just to say exactly what you said.
If it's linked to actual business outcomes, there is, You know, it's not just for the sake of, I know shifting spirituality and all of that.
Um, yeah, I, I can, I could really see the impact, um, when, when I married them together. Um, but, but yes, you know, and what you're talking about from a scalability perspective, we started when we started, I was just doing one-on-one and in fact, I wasn't sure if I wanted to do one-on-one if I wanted to add consulting.
So there is still an element of consulting that I, that I have, um, in, in my offer, but then. during our journey together as well, there was this kind of spark in me that wanted, wanted to try the group program and, and I jumped to it and you helped me navigate that, how to plan for it.
And it was, I had a very successful launch and I'm very happy with the results that we have. And, and so, yeah, just like that, that journey from when it came around, like, I feel like nothing's happening.
And then now I feel really confident with the trajectory that I'm, I'm taking my business towards. So good. And I'm sure the listeners are dying to know, so I know I would be if I was listening to this episode.
Are you happy to share how many people ended up joining your group? Yeah, I have five people who joined my program, which was a good target that I have.
I meant to have 10 people in the program, but also I think understanding that this is like my beta launch, I was pretty, I'm very happy with, with the results that I have.
And, you know, my program is still ongoing and now I still have plans on what do I do for my next launch and so on.
But I feel like I'm also, this is a learning experience for me as well. As I, you know, I've been doing a lot of one-on-ones, how the energy is different when you're working with a group, um, the kind of, um, how should I say, um, Well, energy, I guess, and the kind of output that i provide on a group setting is different.
So for me, just being able to do this is already a win for me because i'm learning in this whole process just the same.
Yes, and i loved that one of our sessions quite recently was about delivery to a group. So there's always the aspect of marketing, selling, the business as a whole, leaving the nine to five, which we haven't even touched upon, but i'm conscious of your time, so that's okay.
it's But we've recently, you've come to a decision about an end date to leave your nine to five as well, which is so exciting.
And that was something at the beginning of your journey that you knew you always wanted, but knowing how to bring that into fruition, having that confidence that you can actually execute on that and know that you've got a plan in place.
It's so exciting. And we've also done sessions on the delivery of your group program because integrity matters and actually getting your clients the outcomes that you say you will is really important.
And I love that you've been able to bring that to the table, which is, it's just so much that we cover and all of it matters.
When you look back, right, seven months, there's really, it seems like a long journey, but it's just seven months.
It's barely a year, but we were talking, it felt like a year because it's Q1 and Q2. And we're in Q4 now. But yes, just my journey of cementing my offer, right?
Well, first, I know I always wanted to do one-on-one coaching and I wanted to start with that. So being able to do that and also starting to get actual clients for my one-on-one coaching and then transitioning, not really transitioning because I still have my one-on-one coaching, but then doing the group program and knowing that I can do both just also gave me that confidence that, well, there's something to this.
There's something to what I'm doing. And like you rightly said, it gave me more confidence to really have a deadline for me from when I would transition full time.
And honestly, when we started, I was just like, I think I said next year, 2026, maybe. But I wasn't very sure because it was too far for me to really see it.
But now I'm like, yes, it's going to happen. And I'm confident with leaving my job and really going full time. And I feel confident with my plan for next year as well to make sure that we get, you know, we make it happen.
I make it happen. Yes. I'm excited for you. Are there any last parting words that you want to share to the audience, the coach who's listening to this and trying to build their coaching business and maybe in a similar place to where you were thinking, I'm doing a lot in my business, but my business isn't working.
Any passing, any final comments that you'd like to share with them? Yeah, I think what I've learned is that there's so many ways for us to grow an online business, particularly a coaching business.
And I've seen it all because I really invested in learning about the business part. So I already, like I mentioned, bought a coaching program as well, but it's more like a do-it-yourself course.
And I know that there's other ways there's communities, people are building communities, or people are bidding memberships.
There's really a lot of ways for you to move your business forward. And this is what I learned from you, actually, because I remember asking you, so what is the right way to do things?
It's really what feels aligned to you, what really feels aligned to your energy. And once you understand what that is, you just move towards making it happen.
And I'm I'm a very logical person. So I always like to have goals and plans in place. So now looking ahead in FY2026, it's about, okay, what am I going to do?
And I'm working my way backward. If you're just starting, it can feel very lonely when you're starting. Because when I started, nobody really understood what I was doing.
I've been in the corporate world for so long that jumping into this feels like such a big change. But I believed in what I did. did I was really very passionate with what I'm doing and what I want to contribute to to the industry that I'm working with.
So I started with that. I think when you start from a place where you really want to help and this is what you want to do and you have conviction in that, the business part follows.
It's trainable. You can learn it and on honestly working with somebody on a one-on-one basis really did help because, like I said, I've invested in do-it-yourself programs.
is great for understanding maybe the basics. But once I started to hit some walls that I feel like is very unique to my business, unique to my audience, unique to my context, it helped having somebody to just brainstorm through it and troubleshoot it together.
So I'd say, yeah, if you already believe in your trajectory, it's just about putting some more. The next step is for you to put some structure in place.
And oftentimes, that mean, maybe you're gonna have to do it yourself. I'm a do it yourself person, actually, if I think about it, but I knew that if I wanted momentum, I would need somebody to guide me through it.
And I think that's how I got results in like the seven months that we're been together. So yeah, that's that's my parting point. I hope that was that was that was a lot of things that I said there.
But I hope that resonates. I feel inspired. I'm like, yeah, let's go build my business. But I love it. Thank you. Thank you so much. I really appreciate your time today.
I know you usually have a hard stop with our sessions. So I will wrap this up today. But everyone who is listening, thank you. Thank you so much, Angeline, for joining me today.
